Eid Cards 2013
Screen-printed postcards created for Eid-al-Adha, which marks the end of the Muslim pilgrimage, or the Hajj. Colors were selected to coordinate with the usage of the US Postal Service Eid stamp.
While fun and light-hearted in design, the message of these cards held a deeper meaning for me, as they arrived out of a personal frustration with “us” versus “them” tendencies among American Muslims. Art, in the form of a postcard greeting became a way to create a moment for dialogue and education: I sent them to all of my friends, Muslim or not, extending the blessings of the holiday to them while also explaining its significance to an audience that otherwise might not have been familiar.
Not to mention, it was my small way of helping to keep the postal system alive.
